Our Journey
From closure to community-led revival
In 2016, Millport Town Hall — a building full of history, memories, and purpose — was closed by the local authority due to a lack of basic maintenance. Its closure left a significant gap in the heart of Great Cumbrae, with community groups and island residents left without a much-needed venue.
But the story didn’t end there.
A shared vision
Determined to bring this important place back to life, a group of local residents formed the Friends of Millport Town Hall Steering Committee. With widespread support — not only from the island but from across the UK and overseas — the idea for a community-led regeneration project began to take shape.
With vision, hard work, and perseverance, that idea became a reality.
“Our original mission is to save this historic building and transform it into a vibrant and sustainable asset, run by the community, for the community.”
